It's rare that I posted about night life on here but I think London has gone mad.
The Black Cap in Camden closed this week.
Yes. The Meth Lab is now gone.
I am gutted as this was my first pint in London, my Halloween with Sharon Needles and my summer in London. It's an iconic place home to so many who do drag, theatre make up or just love a good party.
It has re homed itself but I'll miss sweating my balls off in their non air conditioned dance floor.
It's being knocked down for yet more housing. Housing that of the 25 available - only 7 will be affordable housing. Score London.
Oh and a lot of Camden market (my home away from home) is to go as well. Which means the loss of jobs, culture and fun too.
I had noticed something last time I was in Camden. An air of disease in the place which started with spotting a Pret in the middle of the place. PRET! Sellers of overpriced lunch! Pret usually caters to the average banker on a 15 minutes who is looking to buy an overpriced sandwich in a hurry. So to see it in the middle of Camden was a bit.....what!?!?!? I felt the same way when Maccy Ds moved into Temple Bar in Dublin.
Eventually, all these beautiful places will go and we will be left with housing, prets, chain brands and not much more. All the individuals places will have the life squeezed out of them. It's sad but true. It's already happening. Look around at how many places have shut down.
It's not an issue unique to the UK but happening in Ireland too.
This is why I encourage you to shop local, keep it green, keep it ethical and keep it for the love of god - individual.
