Iconic Dresses from Gone With the WInd restored

The iconic dresses worn by Vivian Leigh in Gone with the Wind in 1939 have been restored at a cost of $30,000! The conservation effort was made by the Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas in order to preserve the dresses from further decay.
The center spent 180 hours on both dresses and they are currently being displayed as part of the V&A costume exhibition in London. Restoration on the dresses began in 2010 and the center had avoided displaying the costumes due to their fragile condition.
The heavy fabric when hung on a manniquin had caused the stitching to experience strain and it had started to fall apart. To be fair, the fabric looks extremely heavy and it can't have been easy for the actress to move.

Unfortunately there was not enough money to restore two more gowns from the film which also need extra work.
