Five things that made me smile this week

I have been feeling a bit blah this week, I have little energy and even less motivation. I have a cough I can't shift and my head is sore, too. I want to sleep and then sleep some more. Alas, life doesn't stop and to distract myself from it all, I have looked through my photos and reflected back on the week. Here a few random things that made me smile.

Waffles for breakfast. We rarely make them but for Annie's Birthday breakfast we dusted the waffle iron and made a large batch. I like mine with plain yogurt and strawberry jam.

Richard's optimism. On Sunday, we celebrated Richard's birthday with a BBQ and lots of guests. The weather was glorious until 30 minutes before the first guests were due to arrive. This is Scotland after all, no BBQ without rain. I noticed this sign on our front door:

Our new event shelter. It is a whopping 4.5 across and has space for many friends to huddle together and shelter from the rain. We tested it on Sunday and plan to take it to our next camping trip in a weeks time.

'Glaswegian' salmon blinis. I love salmon blinis but find those you can buy in the shops to be rubbery and dry. I don't think making my own is a good use of time when time is scarce. The solution? Ritz crackers. I do love this version even better.

Eating plums straight from the tree. Or little tree is weighed down by juicy sweet plums this year. I pick some every morning after I unlock my bike to cycle to work. It is pure joy cycling through the woods eating, plums and spitting the stones as far as I can.

I found this particular plum today. I haven't eaten it yet because it is a funny shape. It reminds me of budding yeast cells (I trained as a microbiologist). Richard was joking that this is how plums multiplied, too.

There you go, life is less blah already. What made you smile this week?

Have you seen the other Five on Friday posts yet? Go on, get a cup of your favourite brew, settle down and read a few. Thank you Amy for the linkup.

As always, thanks for stopping by and leaving lovely comments. Have a great weekend. Cxx
