Goodness, it's been wet over the last couple of days. We even had some light snow on Thursday, though it didn't last. But yesterday evening the rain cleared up in time for Daughter 1 and me to take the children to the Botanics Christmas light show, which was lovely.
They've been at it for the last few years, but a year is a long time when you're 9 and 7 and they still seemed to find it exciting.
All the familiar places seem different, somehow, in the dark and with lights.
It was all very pretty.
These so-called cyclamen were striking, but their leaves are all wrong. These are snowdrop leaves.
But I don't suppose most people minded.
Covid restrictions meant that there was no marshmallow-toasting fire-pit (which tends to be one of the highlights for the Edinburgh Two). Luckily we'd anticipated this by bringing marshmallows and they seemed perfectly happy to eat them untoasted as we wandered round.
And today was much brighter. We walked round the local streets
and then down to the river,
which is in spate - look at this tree, not usually growing in the middle of the water.
And so we toddle on, hoping for better days when the vaccine is here and we can see people again in a more normal way and enjoy the freedoms that we once took for granted.
