A Look Inside Bode's First Flagship Store in NYC

Menswear brand Bode just opened its first flagship store that features an interior with as much artisanal detailing as its garments. Founder and designer Emily Bode wanted to create a comfortable space for customers to enjoy a relaxed and private shopping experience while browsing her meticulously detailed items. Prior to the store’s opening, the designer was selling out of her small studio where she realized her clients prefer an intimate atmosphere.
Inspired by an old American hotel lobby, the store’s interior boasts wood-paneled walls with built-in wooden alcoves, as well as an earthy forest green accent wall. A hand-painted fresco floats above Bode’s one-of-a-kind items, while chrome deco lighting fixtures illuminate the space. Displayed throughout the store are various collected items from Bode’s personal collection that serve as inspiration during her design process, ranging from masks to vintage photographs. Bode recently debuted a collection of patchwork pillows, some of which are on display atop a wooden bed. The focal design feature of the store is a fully-functional hand-painted clay fountain, created circa 1890s, that was reclaimed from an old building in Chicago.
The space was designed by Green River Project, a design company Bode herself has collaborated with over the past 10 years on projects that include the custom Fall/Winter 2019 presentation set. A collection of furniture created by Bode and the design company, which includes a sofa and matching dining chair, will eventually be on display.
Bode’s new NYC flagship store is currently open. Stop by the address below to view the space in person.
