Punk rockers Green Day are to be recognised for their contribution to music over the past two decades at this year's MTV Europe Music Awards.
The American band will receive the Global Icon Award at a ceremony in Rotterdam on Sunday night.

Lemonade star Beyonce and Love Yourself singer Justin have been shortlisted for five awards each, with Britain's Adele close behind on four nominations.

Beyonce is up for best US act, best video for Formation, best female, best live act and biggest fans, while Bieber has been named for best Canadian act, best song with Sorry, best male, best pop, and goes up against Beyonce in the biggest fans category.

In the best UK and Ireland act category, Adele faces competition from Coldplay, Little Mix, Years & Years and ex-One Direction star Zayn Malik.
The 23rd EMAs will include performances from American rock group Kings of Leon and singer-songwriter Bruno Mars as well as Green Day.
